New York State Foundation for Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR)
NYSTAR supports technology development, innovation and commercialization leading to economic growth in New York State. To achieve its vision and make New York a national leader in high-technology academic research and economic growth, NYSTAR's mission is comprised of key goals that reflect the overall charge given to NYSTAR. These key goals are:
- Help new and existing New York businesses become more competitive through use of innovative technologies;
- Continue to leverage public and private partnerships for technology development and commercialization;
- Enhance the research capabilities and expertise of New York's colleges, universities and research institutions;
- Support efforts to ensure a skilled workforce including exciting youth about science and technology; and
- Recommend policies to take greater advantage of New York's technology and academic research assets.
Stony Brook University
Founded just fifty years ago, Stony Brook University has ascended to the ranks our nation’s greatest research institutions. A member of the prestigious Association of American Universities, Stony Brook has been ranked among the top 2% of all universities, and among the top 100 science universities in the world. In addition to its internationally recognized strengths in physics, mathematics, engineering, chemistry, and the life sciences, the University also includes a comprehensive Health Sciences Center and Medical School, 540-bed tertiary care hospital and trauma center, 350-bed Veterans Home, and a comprehensive Dental School and Dental Care Center. Stony Brook University also co-manages Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), joining an elite group of universities that run federal laboratories.
