  • 104 students have graduated from the program:
    • 40 students in 2006
    • 30 students in 2005
    • 34 students in 2004
  • In 2007 a successful grant from the US Department of Commerce enabled the launch of a pilot distance learning test for the program. The program is being video conferenced live to students at both Syracuse and Buffalo.
  • At least 9 individuals from the 2004 class had corporate internships with OSI Pharmaceuticals Inc, Forest Laboratories, Proctor and Gamble, Fonar, InGenious Targeting Laboratories and the Ruth Group in areas ranging from corporate R&D to law and public relations. 2005 internships are progressing.
  • An alumnus from the 2004 Manhattan program started his own biotech venture, BioNano Systems, Inc after being motivated by his participation in the 2004 program. They are discussing potential collaboration with Sensor CAT.
  • Program corporate partners include leading bioscience companies: Acorda Therapeutics, Cornerstone Pharmaceuticals, Vasomedical. Inc., OSI Pharmaceuticals, Forest Laboratories, Pfizer, Inc., Nanoprobes, Inc., Morgan and Finnegan LLP, E-Z-EM Inc., Pall Corporation and Target Health.
  • The Program has generated the Center’s BioMentor E-network. The program aims to promote the career development of promising young life sciences professionals by facilitating the on going exchange of career guidance information and expertise with industry experts. BioMentor E-Network is an innovative program that utilizes on-line e-mentoring, in collaboration with the National Mentoring Partnership, complimented by periodic strategic networking events for mentors and mentees.
  • An Alumni Network has been developed that includes an executive committee. The network offers opportunities for ongoing professional career development to the graduates of the Fundamentals of the Bioscience Industry program.
  • The Center for Biotechnology, in partnership with the New York State Office of Science, Technology and Academic Research (NYSTAR), announced the creation of a fellowship program to provide financial aid to promising entrepreneurial-minded life sciences graduate students enrolled in the Center’s Fundamentals of the Bioscience Industry program. NYSTAR’s support will further enhance the Center’s efforts to attract academically strong, incredibly motivated applicants who possess an entrepreneurial drive that will take them far in industry.
