The Fundamentals
of the Bioscience Industry program provides
life scientists with a comprehensive introduction to the bioscience
business environment. This includes evolving business models, product
development cycles, regulatory issues, finance, managerial challenges
and future trends in the life sciences. Participants also develop commercialization strategies/reports around real intellectual property and business issues.
The program exposes current life sciences graduate students,
post-docs, and industry professionals to a broad range of career opportunities within the bioscience industry, and
how to utilize this the core competencies taught in the program to advance their own careers.

Taught by industry professionals, the program consists of 80 hours of highly interactive instruction that encompass the entire commercialization roadmap. Focus areas include Product Development, Regulatory Affairs, the Business of Bioscience and Corporate Culture. Class instruction will be augmented with guest lectures by industry experts. Case studies, group projects and presentation skills are all critical aspects of the program.
Format
The program is a semester long and consists of two, 2½-hour class per week, offered in two locations on Long Island at Stony Brook University and in Manhattan at Stony Brook Manhattan. View class calendar for more information.
Evaluation
Critical Path to Commercialization Project
Program attendees will be responsible for participating in a semester long group project culminating in a Critical Path to Commercialization (CPC) report and presentation at the end of the program. Students will work on real life projects to help advance the value of the invention. This CPC report, a final investor-style presentation and class participation will be the basis for evaluation. Students
who complete all sessions will be awarded a Certificate of Completion
by the Center for Biotechnology.
