Personalized Medicine: The Emerging Pharmacogenomics Revolution
Presented by PricewaterhouseCoopers

Revolutionary change requires new ways of thinking. Pharmacogenomics, the next fundamental development in human medicine, promises to usher in an era of personalized medicine. Hear a distinguished panel of speakers explore new strategic options and their impacts on patients, established companies, emerging companies, and payers all of whom are linked through emerging business models.

Moderator:
Gerald McDougall, Partner-in-Charge, Health Sciences Practice PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP

Speakers:

Bill Hearl, PhD.
Chief Scientific Officer
Capital Genomix, Inc.

Bill provides perspectives from his experiences in a small biotech company and through my network of peers and associates in the industry. He has worked in biotechnology for almost 20 years in a variety of environment starting in diagnostics with Pharmacia (ENI) and HIV blood tests, IGEN, Life Technologies (Invitrogen), KPL and finally founded Capital Genomix in 2000. Capital Genomix is working to develop biomarkers for cancer derived from clinically characterized patients. Their process is termed "patient driven drug discovery" and is based on the idea of using well characterized patient samples that are sequentially examined for chemo-sensitivity and genomic profiles followed by the identification of novel targets (proteins). Other proprietary platform technologies are then used to develop antibodies that can be screened back against patient samples for reactivity. The goal is to help sub-divide the patient population based on these biomarkers to facilitate the best therapy course and prognosis.

David Weinreich, M.D., M.B.A.
