Greg Simon, J.D.
President, FasterCures/The Center for Accelerating Medical Solutions
Greg Simon is President of FasterCures/The Center for Accelerating Medical Solutions, a center of the Milken Institute formed in 2003. Mr. Simon has built FasterCures into an organization recognized and valued for its innovative approach to analysis and problem solving, supported by significant foundation and private grants. Greg is a member of the National Health Council’s Board of Directors, the Seattle Biomedical Research Institute’s Board of Trustees, and the Google Health Advisory Council. He serves on the Leadership Council of the Life Sciences Institute at the University of Michigan, and PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Montage Group, which advises its Health Industries practice. Prior to his current position, Mr. Simon was the Chief Domestic Policy Advisor to Vice President Al Gore where he oversaw initiatives including the programs of the National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Human Genome Project, and the development of the regulatory framework for biotechnology products. Mr. Simon also held positions as Staff Director of the Investigations and Oversight Subcommittee of the House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space and Technology, and was CEO of the consulting firm Simon Strategies/Mindbeam. Mr. Simon received his law degree from the University of Washington in 1983.
James A. Weyhenmeyer, Ph.D.
Senior VP for Research, Research Foundation of SUNY & Senior Vice Provost for Research and Economic Development for SUNY
Dr. Weyhenmeyer is the Senior Vice President for Research at the Research Foundation of the State University of New York and Senior Vice Provost for Research and Economic Development for the State University of New York. As such, he serves as the senior officer with responsibility for research, technology commercialization and economic development activities for the Foundation and the University’s 64 campuses. Dr. Weyhenmeyer was previously the Interim Vice President for Technology and Economic Development at the University of Illinois. In that role, he served as the principal of the member for the University’s limited liability companies: Illinois VENTURES, LLC and the University of Illinois Research Park, LLC, as well as the Director of the Research Park at the University of Illinois. He is an experienced senior administrator having held several executive administrative appointments at Illinois, including Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Associate Vice President for Economic Development and Corporate Relations. He was also the founding Managing Director of Illinois VENTURES, LLC and Executive Director of the Illinois Technology Enterprise Center, which focus on the early-stage development of technology-based companies deriving from research institutions and universities, He has served on numerous boards, including Argonne National Laboratory’s Board of Governors, Fermi Laboratory’s Board of Directors, and the Illinois Fund-to-Fund Review Board, as well as scientific advisory boards for companies in gene technology and drug development sectors. He has also served as the chief scientific officer for a medical device company and chief operating officer for a drug discovery company. Dr. Weyhenmeyer is an Adjunct Professor of Cell Biology, Pathology and Neuroscience at the University of Illinois. He has published widely in the areas of stroke biology and technology commercialization, and was recently elected into the Royal Swedish Academy for Engineering Sciences. He received his B.A. from Knox College, a Ph.D. from Indiana University and did postdoctoral training in the Departments of Medicine and Physiology at the University of Iowa.
