SBIR/STTR Assistance
Overview
Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants from the federal government are an excellent way to help fund pre-seed, seed, and early stage companies. Every community has experts who can assist you with the application process:
About SBIR & STTR Programs
Passage of the Small Business Innovation Development Act in 1982 created the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program – a federally sponsored program which provides early-stage research and development funding to small technology companies.
The Small Business Technology Transfer Act of 1992 established the Small Business Technology TRansfer (STTR) Program - a federally sponsored program which provides early-stage research and development funding to small companies working in conjunction with researchers at research institutions and/or universities.
Through these programs, the Small Business Administration (SBA) ensures that American small, high-tech, businesses are an integral part of the federal government's research and development. Companies compete for funding by submitting proposals answering the technical topic needs of Federal agencies’ periodic solicitations. Each year, $2 billion is awarded to small businesses through the SBIR and STTR programs.
