Overview
Early in its history, the CFB recognized the significant gap between the basic research and scientific discoveries taking place on an academic campus, and the technology development interests of existing companies, entrepreneurs and investors that may consider licensing commercially promising intellectual property from the university. In order to help bridge this “valley of death,” the CFB invests a significant portion of its resources in the discovery and development of academic technologies toward commercial goals, often in partnership with New York State companies. The CFB supports a broad range of promising research that is competitively evaluated from both a scientific and business perspective.
BioPartnering Meetings
In an effort to facilitate industry-academic interactions and research collaborations, the CFB hosts periodic BioPartnering Meetings between corporate clients and a series of relevant academic faculty at Stony Brook University and other partner institutions. Faculty members are identified to present their research capabilities and technologies to the corporate client under a confidentiality agreement.
Innovative Technology Development (ITD) Program
Overview:
The Innovative Technology Development (ITD) program provides direct financial investment in translational research and technology development projects at Stony Brook University and other academic campuses, often in partnership with New York State bioscience companies. Since 1983, the ITD program has allocated over $10M in funding to create and advance the critical-path development of promising intellectual property
