The Center for Biotechnology’s Applied Bioscience Laboratory is located in the Psychology A Building, 3rd Floor on the campus of SUNY Stony Brook. It includes state-of-the art research laboratories to assist in the translation of academic research toward commercial goals. Translation of basic research discoveries provides a valuable bridge linking the intellectual resources of the academic sector with the commercial capabilities of the bioscience industry.

This results in:

  • corporate partners access to innovative technologies beyond the conceptual stage of development
  • accelerated product development cycles
  • increased market value of the technology
  • reduced risk associated with new product development.
  • new company formation
  • increased corporate revenues

The Applied Biotechnology Laboratory

The Applied Biotechnology Laboratory (ABL) is an integral part of the Center. The ABL contains equipment for molecular and cell biology research. It supports directives of the Center by accelerating business development of basic science research within the academic scientific community. Core staff is composed of scientists with training and expertise in both the academic and industry sectors. Scientists work collaboratively with other scientists for development of research ideas into marketable products. Some new products seed formation of new bioscience companies in New York State.

For more information about the ABL, please contact Dr. Anil Dhundale

Custom Microarray Facility

The Custom Microarray Facility (CMF) at the Center creates microarrays for use in gene expression research. Currently many DNA microarrays are whole genome microarrays that contain tens of thousands of genes. These broad survey type arrays are useful tools but can be expensive and may require complicated data analysis. Custom or focused microarrays contain hundreds of genes of interest derived from a whole genome survey for example, or from an organism where no other microarrays are available. Services are offered to both academia and industry.

We seek technology development opportunities in the area of DNA microarrays. This can be a simple beta site test arrangement, co-investigators in SBIR/STTR grants, or a service contract.

Please contact Dr. Anil Dhundale if you have an interest in discussing potential opportunities

Stony Brook University Facilities

The Center facilitates access to a broad range of research facilities at Stony Brook University and elsewhere in New York State. Center staff assists companies in identifying appropriate Stony Brook faculty for consultation, contract research, or collaborative relationships from the more than 650 life science, chemistry, and biomedical faculty on campus. Corporate and academic scientists have access to world class research facilities and services associated with a world class institution.
