Initiating Research

Manombo Research in Kalambatritra

In this section we provide researchers (including faculty, graduate students, undergraduate assistants, volunteers, Earthwatchers, and Study Abroad students) with the information they need to plan a research trip to southeastern Madagascar. Please read all sections carefully, and more than once! They contain a lot of very important information. There are many steps that must be completed before you can be cleared for research and this information is updated regularly, so check back several times during preparation for your trip.

Obtaining Permits – Provides detailed information on obtaining research, collecting, and export permits for working in Madagascar

Project Budgets and Costs – Lists and explains the various costs of conducting research in Madagascar

Researchers Field Guide – Provides general information about working in Madagascar with a focus on working at Ranomafana, including visas, health issues, facilities at Ranomafana, money, field supplies list, logistics in Tana and at Ranomafana, etc.

ANGAP Research Proposal format – All researchers must submit a proposal to ANGAP (Madagascar National Park Service). This is the format.

Checklist for Conducting Research – This checklist and timeline will help you organize and plan your research project in Madagascar.

ICTE Waiver and Liability Release – We require all researchers working through ICTE to sign this release and send it to ICTE.
