Research Sites:
Ranomafana National Park, its peripheral zone villages as well as villages more far away

Research Project:
Ecological, Socio-economical and Health-related Changes in Threatened Rainforests of Madagascar

Research Focus:
Ph.D. Thesis: Impact of Ranomafana National Park on Living Conditions of Local People - Perceptions of Living Environment and Life Security.

The study will explore the possible changes happened in living conditions (both material and social) of local people due the RNP. The focus in the study is on reproductive issues, experienced changes and “life security”. As well, educational issues and participation on project activities will be studied. Methods include e.g. key persons interviews, observation in villages, local statistical information, project documents and follow-up studies, school children’s writings and focus group discussions. The research strategy is comparative as the villages in and out of peripheral zone are investigated. The field work will be carried out in three periods during 2001-2003.
