Volunteer Researchers for Field Work in Madagascar
Dr. Wright and her students occasionally have openings for qualified
volunteer research assistants (undergraduates) on their projects studying
the ecology and behavior of sifakas (Propithecus diadema edwardsii)
and other species. If you are interested, please send your CV and the names of 2
3 references to the Program Officer (see ICTE
personnel), as well as the approximate dates that you would
like to be in Ranomafana.
Unfortunately, Dr. Wright does not have funding to cover the costs
of research assistants. As a volunteer researcher in Madagascar, you would be responsible for the following
costs: 1) MICET Facilitation fee ($300), 2) Centre ValBio
Station fees and housing, 3) Support for a Malagasy student, 4)
Your airfare to and from Antananarivo and travel to Ranomafana,
5) any addition costs associated with time in Antananarivo or
other parts of Madagascar. See Project
Budgets and Costs for details.
Sometimes the Explorer's Club
provides funding for undergraduates interested in conducting research.
National Geographic also provides funding for young researchers
-
Young Explorer's Grant. Many universities are promoting undergraduate
research, so you might talk to your university to find out if they
can help you with funding. Finally, you might consider participating
in our Undergraduate Semester Abroad in Madagascar Program (StudyAbroad)
which includes an independent research component.
Best of luck in your efforts to come to Madagascar to work.
