Much variation in size and color, females generally larger than males. Upperparts yellowish-brown, underparts yellowish-white. (Garbutt, 1999)

Insectivorous.
Roosts under the bark of trees or in the eaves of buildings.
Mammalia -> Chiroptera (Microchiroptera) -> Vespertilionidae (Vespertilioninae) -> Eptesicus matroka
Endemic to Madagascar, found on most of the island except the dry south-west. The taxa E. pusillus, E.humbloti, E. capensis are now considered to be this species.
