Eulemur fulvus infanticide and cannibalism
Français

On 27 Sept 2000 at about 06:45 John Walker and others observed a Eulemur fulvus ssp. infant alone on a trail at Berenty Reserve (in the south of Madagascar). Shortly thereafter another troop of E. fulvus appeared. One of the males in the troop noticed the infant and beheaded it. A female then took the infant from him and proceded to eat it. John had no camera, left the scene and returned with a camcorder and proceded to film the female eating the infant for another 10 minutes. 5.8Mb V8

Note: The subspecies of Eulemur fulvus is indeterminant at Berenty as both rufus and collaris have been introduced into the reserve and most of the animals are now hybrids (Jan Jekielek, personal communication)
