Identification

A small tenrec (but large for a shrew tenrec), it may be distinguished from M. thomasi by size and by having a longer tail than body. The upperparts are brownish, and the underparts greyish. (Garbutt, 1999)

Forages on the ground and climbs low branches.

They are cathemeral.

Behavior

They may sleep in burrows. Males and females live together.

Breeding takes place in austral spring/summer. Litter size is around 1-3.
