Volohosy (Cathariostachys
madagascariensis (formerly known as C. viguieri
(Dransfield, 1998)), or giant bamboo in English)
is the largest bamboo in the Talatakely area. It is the favorite food of
all three bamboo lemurs.

Branch shoots form at the nodes of the culm.

Blooms. This species does not undergo a mass flowering followed by a complete
die back as some bamboo species do.
Individual ramets (clones connected by rhizomes) will flower and die, but
not in synchrony with neighbors.
